WARBY PARKER X IYAAJAY

by - August 22, 2014

Im happy to finally announce a new little collaboration I've kept pretty secret from you guys in the last week. The lovely guys over at Warby Parker got in contact with me and asked me if id like to review and style their two new incredible collections, the Waterway collection and the Beacon collection, and I jumped at the chance of working with such an innovative company.

Now for you who don't know what Warby Parker is, they're an online based company that allow you to pick out 5 pairs for 5 days with their 'Home try on' service where, once you've made your decision, pick out the ones you love, order them for $99 and send the try on pairs back, simple as that! Now Warby Parker also offer sunglasses in this deal which is perfect if you fancy switching up your look and seeing what suits you, all from the comfort of your own home. They also operate the 'Buy a pair. Give a pair' system where you buy a pair of Warby Parker glasses, they tally up the number of glasses sold and make a monthly donation to our nonprofit partners, which covers the cost of sourcing that number of glasses, the nonprofit trains men and women in developing countries to give basic eye exams and sell glasses to their communities at affordable prices and these men and women work hard to spread awareness and make eyecare available to their communities.

Now moving onto their new collections, the Waterway collection -inspired by warm coastal travels and landlocked staycations by the pool. Because summer is for relaxing. Warby Parker took five favourites for a quick dip, and they’re more refreshing than ever. A few favourite silhouettes—Welty, Bensen, Piper, Griffin, and Percey—get a kick in the pants (temples?) with shoreline shades like Sand Castle and Marine Pebble.

The Beacon collection is inspired by impromptu, can’t- duplicate-them all-nighters, when having no plans brings endless possibilities. Think classic styles of glasses with modern material colour ways and twists to create a truly rememberable pair of glasses.

Lets get onto the styling shall we?
This classic style was included in their new Waterway collection, with their bold blue lenses and attention grabbing tortoiseshell, these glasses aren't for the fading wallflower. Team with a classic tan mac for an iconic twist on the 'mac and jeans' look. To play against the contrast of these frames, a messy almost beachy quiff would work perfectly to play down the pairing and make it look effortless. If you wanted to dress these up, team them with a crisp white shirt and ever classic skinny black trouser. Très classic! If you want to take a risk, grab these shades along with a slouchy, cut off vest and denim shorts for a skater edge with class.

GLASSES TWO // PERCEY IN CRYSTAL
My personal favourite of the collections, the Percey is an unexpected twist on frames which proved huge in 2014 and doesn't look to just end there! Id pair these with a thin charcoal turtleneck and a lighter grey suit for a nod to the mod complete with the quintessential chelsea boot. For a more daytime look, Id pair these with a bolder print and paired down shorts or trousers in a deeper huge to tie in with the lenses and also make the frames gain even more attention.

GLASSES THREE // GARRETT IN OAK BARREL
Geek chic never looked so good until the Garrett came along. The light tortoiseshell works brilliant against a strong brow bone to lift the face and also add interest in the most functional glasses. Id style these with a statement sweatshirt in a deeper colour such a forest green or bold burgundy to accelerate the colour lift even further. I also think these would be perfect for a more polished black tie affair teamed with a killer tux and 50's slicked back do, remeniscent to Superman's Clark Kent *note: cape not included*

GLASSES FOUR // INGRAM IN REVOLVER BLACK
When you think of the perfect glasses, the Wayfarer style is always a go-to. The thinner frame style of this pair would be a true staple in anyones collection and will always be a 'team with anything' pair. Id style these with a skinnier fit polo in a rich colour to contribute to the classic, almost prep nature of these frames. To take these up a notch, Id pair these with a with the jock staple of a college jacket (preferably with the leather sleeves and minimal colour such as white or black) and black drainpipe jeans for a monochromatic, Americana vibe. These would also be perfect for a more formal summer scenario, or even when you've just rolled out of bed and its too early to function (Admit it, who does enjoy being up early?) An icon in the making!

I would love to say a huge thank you to the guys over at Warby Parker for giving me this opportunity and allowing me to style up these glasses!

Until next time guys!
Jay
