With the 90s trends huge again this season, and show no signs of being put in the past again, vintage is the perfect way to go to get clothing which is high on trend, but even bigger on backstories. Absolute Vintage, who were recently featured on Dawn O'Porters 'This Old Thing: Fall in love with vintage clothes' and I have been conversing on doing a styling post so nows the time to fully unleash whats been brewing in my mind.
For the first look, I chose the quintessential checkered shirt, which is the 90s biggest love. Ive decided to go full on grunge and teamed it with ripped knee jeans and trusty Dr Martens, for that Nirvanaesque look. The shirt could also be tied round the waist with a oversized tee to create a modern twist on 90s styling where layers are piled on for the unpredictable moments. If the shoes aren't for you, you could also team the look with loafers or chelsea boots for the more streamlined look perfect for daytime casual occasions such as lunch or shopping. For winter, Id also style this with 2 different pieces of headwear, either a porkpie hat for the more polished look or a beanie for a downtime vibe.
For the second look, I went with this bold 90s basketball jersey, the perfect layering piece. For the basis of the look, I chose skinny fit joggers for that comfort element, and teamed it with a modern take on the slip on. If this look is a little bare for you, team it with a sweatshirt over the top to add another texture and laid-back element or chuck over a oversized shirt, perfect for that off duty street style. If the trousers aren't for you, why not try them with a pair of super light wash jeans or your favourite pair of black jeans so that the colour is the main focus of the outfit. For accessories, this is where it gets tricky. Id suggest a backpack in a faux leather or a duffle in a dark canvas to contrast the other materials and also gives a practical edge to such a handy item.
Id like to say a huge thanks to Absolute Vintage for letting me use some of their pieces, make sure to check out their website and also keep upto date with them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
Until next time,
Jay
