4 FOR FALL// MY PICKS FROM ZARA AW14
July 25, 2014
*heavy breathing*
Its the last thing I should be looking for when its boiling and humid in the UK but I did. Zara started to trickle launch the upcoming AW14 stock and oh god, Im not gonna lie, I want most of it.Yet again, Zara have gained influences from the hottest designers of the season and graciously presented it to our eager eyes. To me, whenever they launch a new collection, its like falling in love all over again with each season. So instead of featuring every single piece, I decided to pick out my 4 favourite current pieces from the new season and how they can be transitioned from now until we're knee deep in snow later this year.
Lets just say, these beauties have already found themselves in my bag online ready for purchasing. Sports vs Sinner combines two elements that were everywhere this year from Alexander Wang who's lustworthy, credit busting sportswear is the du jour of the season, to Hedi Slimane and his yet again, mind-blowing collection. These give a subtle reminder of 'yeah, Im feeling lazy, but dressy' and would look great teamed with slouchy grey marl or a starched white shirt to clash the textures. Id be tempted to team these now with a oversized cut off tank and Vans slip-ons that'll echo a 'oh this? I threw it on' vibe which also sounds like such a fib but works so well.
Its a classic coat but not as we know it. The ever present, multi seasonal trench gets a chic, futuristic twist with the use of neoprene. This would look great nonchalantly belted over a classic brenton top with the skinniest jeans you can buy and either chelsea boots or another new season trend of clunkier shoes such as thicker sole loafers or creepers which have made a resurgence again (thanks to Saint Laurent and the rock vibe throughout its collection) This coat would also look the part with a slicked back monochromatic look which thrives off texture rather then colour.
William Morrisesque tapestry florals are looking to be huge this season due to the hand painted, beautifully crafted confections hitting the runway at Burberry Prorsum which sent a army of floppy hatted guys in watercolour printed florals and clever layering which still make the pattern stand out. Id style this half tucked into jeans like Zara have, but then button it all the way up, teamed with the lower half consisting of either Dr Martens or heavy soled loafers and topped off with a pork pie hat for a more indie take on smart dressing.
Yet again, Zara nailed it with the shoes this season from interchangeable layer hybrid high tops to classic boots, but these caught my eye more then anything else. Take a 50's hint and team these with a casual look of rolled up jeans with a well loved leather jacket and either a white shirt or printed tee. For an unexpected look, team these with a short suit for a smart sideswipe to a otherwise put together ensemble. If you want to portray the vision of the classic Burberry gent, team these with skinny, incredibly tailored gem tone chinos with the obligatory mac and top it off with a pair of tortoiseshell glasses (optical or sunglasses) and a slick short back and sides.
So there we have it guys, any pieces catch your eye? Any trends you can't wait to try? Leave a comment below or feel free to tweet me at @iyaajayblog with the hashtag #4forfall
Until next time!
